Mallacoota’s Shady Gully Caravan Park

Mallacoota’s Shady Gully Caravan Park Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Shady Gully Caravan Park on Genoa Rd, I wasn’t expecting much. The name itself sort of suggests something pretty basic, right? But here’s the thing about Mallacoota: sometimes the most unassuming spots end up being exactly what you didn’t know you needed. This place sits tucked away from the main tourist drag, which means you’re not dealing with the chaos around the foreshore, but you’re still close enough that a five-minute drive gets you to those gorgeous inlet views everyone comes here for.
What actually won me over was how genuinely peaceful it feels here. I mean, you wake up to kookaburras laughing in the trees (and honestly, there are worse alarm clocks), and the whole property has this laid-back vibe that makes you slow down whether you want to or not. The facilities are clean and well-maintained – nothing fancy, but everything works properly, which is more than I can say for some of the pricier places I’ve stayed. The shower blocks are actually quite decent, with good water pressure, and they keep them spotless. There’s something to be said for a place that doesn’t try to be what it’s not but absolutely nails what it is, you know?
The staff here really know their stuff about the area too. When I mentioned wanting to do some fishing, the guy at reception didn’t just point me toward the obvious spots – he told me about this little section near the boat ramp where the locals go early morning, and gave me the heads up about tide times. That’s the kind of local knowledge you can’t get from Google. Plus, if you’re planning to explore Croajingolong National Park (which, honestly, you should), you’re perfectly positioned here. The park entrance is basically around the corner, and you can hit some of those incredible coastal walks without dealing with the parking nightmare closer to town. During school holidays it gets busier, sure, but even then it maintains this relaxed atmosphere that makes Mallacoota special. The sites are well-spaced enough that you’re not listening to your neighbor’s conversations, and there’s plenty of shade – which, trust me, you’ll appreciate during those hot summer afternoons. It’s not trying to be a resort, and that’s exactly why it works so well.

Great communication with Kris. Upgraded Cabin at no cost much appreciated, as was the advice on local dining and groceries. Lovely, shady, quite park just off main road into town, about 2 kms out, so no bustle.

If there's one thing I regret, it's not staying longer at Mallacoota's Shady Gully! The accommodation was very pleasant, clean and the host very welcoming. The area around Mallacoota is also very beautiful, with lovely beaches and forest walks.
I'd definitely recommend it!
