Malibu Village
Malibu Village Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Malibu Village in Canet-en-Roussillon, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from the name — it sounds more California than French Mediterranean. But you know what? This four-star resort actually nails that relaxed, village-like atmosphere perfectly. The property sits on Avenue les hauts de canet, which gives you this elevated feel above the bustling coastal town below. There’s free parking right on site, which — trust me — is a huge relief when you’re dealing with summer crowds along this stretch of the French coast.
The Village Atmosphere
What really sets this place apart is how it’s designed like an actual Mediterranean village rather than your typical hotel block. The accommodations are spread across different buildings, and each apartment feels like you’re staying in someone’s well-appointed vacation home. I mean, you get a proper kitchen setup, which is perfect for those mornings when you want to grab fresh bread from the local boulangerie and make coffee at your own pace. The whole layout encourages you to wander around and discover different corners — there’s this organic flow that makes longer stays feel natural.
Location and Local Life
The location feedback from couples makes total sense once you’re here — they rated it 8.5 for good reason. You’re positioned perfectly between the Mediterranean beaches and the foothills that lead toward the Pyrenees. Canet-en-Roussillon itself has this wonderful mix of traditional French seaside charm and Catalan influences (you’re pretty close to the Spanish border). The resort’s elevated position means you get those gorgeous sunset views over the coast, but you’re still just a short drive down to the beach when you want sand between your toes.
Amenities and Daily Rhythms
The breakfast setup here really works well — they offer both continental and buffet options, so whether you’re the type who wants a quick croissant and coffee or someone who likes to linger over a proper spread, you’re covered. The restaurant on-site captures that relaxed Mediterranean dining style where meals stretch on pleasantly. I particularly appreciated having access to the spa facilities after spending days exploring the region — there’s something about unwinding here that feels more authentic than your typical resort experience. Each room maintains that village apartment feel while still giving you the services you’d expect from a four-star property.
Why Guests Love It
What guests consistently mention — and what I experienced myself — is how this place manages to feel both secluded and accessible. You get that peaceful, away-from-it-all atmosphere without being stuck in the middle of nowhere. The combination of apartment-style independence with hotel-level service hits this sweet spot that works whether you’re here for a romantic getaway or a longer family stay. Plus, the fact that recent guests rated the location so highly (8.5) tells you something real about how this place delivers on its promises rather than just looking good in photos.

The staff is welcoming and helpful. They speak French and English.
Breakfast included boiled eggs, croissants, fruits, cheese, yoghurt, musli.
There is a pool. There is AC in the flat, not much noise from the street, no mosquitoes.
The sea is amazing, warmer than in Montpellier. Canet is nice place to walk with restaurants, bars, port.

We stayed only as a place to sleep on a longish journey. I didn't notice the need to rent linen when I booked, as it was something I had not come across during our 2 months in Spain - it would have been a deal breaker. Kindly management waived the fee, I think because I described our situation - Aussie couple travelling for 3 months. The...

Excellent room, lots of amenities around the hotel. The pools were great, although one pool has a large crack in the bottom... I didn't feel confident swimming in a pool with a large crack... This was the only real concern.

Attentive personnel, reasonably nice pool and other facilities. I cannot vouch for all apartments because, as far as I understand, the entire complex is co-owned, but our apartment was very nice: clean and had everything you need and everything worked well.
