HOTEL OVERVIEW

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Lomond Woods Holiday Park on Old Luss Road, I wasn’t expecting much from what sounded like just another caravan site. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked right between Balloch and Luss (hence the road name), and once you’re inside the grounds, you realize someone’s put serious thought into making this feel more like a proper resort than your typical holiday park.

The thing that got me right away was how they’ve managed to keep that woodsy, natural feel despite being so close to Loch Lomond’s main tourist strip. I mean, you’re literally minutes from all the boat trips and the Loch Lomond Shores shopping bit, but when you’re wandering around the park itself, it actually feels peaceful. The pitches are well-spaced – not like those cramped sites where you can hear your neighbor’s entire conversation through thin caravan walls. And honestly, the facilities here are genuinely impressive. The shower blocks are heated (crucial if you’re there in shoulder season), and they’ve got this little restaurant area that doesn’t feel like typical holiday park food. I grabbed fish and chips there one evening when I couldn’t be bothered driving into Balloch, and it was… well, better than it had any right to be.

What really sets this place apart though is the location for exploring. You’re perfectly positioned for hitting both the touristy stuff and the proper hiking routes. Conic Hill is basically on your doorstep if you fancy a decent walk with views, and if you drive five minutes toward Luss, you can park up and do the loch-side walk without dealing with the mental parking situation right in Luss village (especially during summer weekends – trust me on this one). The staff seem to actually know the area too, which is rarer than you’d think. When I asked about avoiding crowds at the Fairy Pools, the guy at reception gave me proper local intel about timing and alternative parking spots. That 8.4 rating makes sense when you experience little touches like that. Sure, it’s not cheap – this is Loch Lomond after all, and anything decent around here comes with a premium. But if you want somewhere that feels like a proper base for exploring rather than just a place to dump your caravan for the night, Lomond Woods delivers. Just book ahead if you’re planning summer visits – word’s definitely gotten out about this one.
