Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard “chalets by a loch,” I was expecting something touristy and overpriced. But Loch Monzievaird Chalets actually surprised me in the best way possible. These aren’t your typical Highland holiday rentals trying too hard to be fancy. They’re proper wooden chalets that feel lived-in and comfortable, sitting right on the water’s edge about ten minutes outside Crieff proper.

The thing that gets you first is just how quiet it is out there. I mean, you’re basically staying on a private loch – and yes, it’s one of those gorgeous Scottish lochs that looks different every hour depending on the light. The chalets themselves are well-maintained without being sterile, you know? Ours had this lovely wood-burning stove that we actually used (the owners stock proper logs, not those useless fire-starter things), and the kitchen was surprisingly well-equipped. The beds are comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up with that usual holiday back ache, and honestly, the Wi-Fi worked better than I expected for being in the middle of nowhere. What really won me over was the attention to small details – decent shower pressure, blackout curtains that actually block light, and they’d left fresh milk in the fridge, which is the kind of thoughtful touch that makes a difference when you arrive late.

The location is pretty perfect if you want to explore Perthshire without dealing with crowds. You’re close enough to pop into Crieff for groceries or a meal at the Crieff Hydro if you fancy it, but far enough out that you feel like you’ve properly escaped. The walking is fantastic – there’s a path around the loch that takes about an hour, and if you’re into fishing, well, you’re sorted. We spotted deer most mornings, and the birdwatching is brilliant if that’s your thing. Fair warning though – it can get a bit chilly even in summer once the sun goes down, so pack layers. And while the chalets are great for couples or small families, the walls aren’t soundproof, so if you’ve got noisy neighbors, you’ll know about it. But honestly, most people who choose this kind of place are looking for the same peaceful experience you are. The whole setup just works – it’s the kind of place where you actually relax instead of feeling like you need a holiday to recover from your holiday.
