Lemon Tree Lodge – 2 Willow View

HOTEL OVERVIEW
You know what caught me off guard about Lemon Tree Lodge? It’s actually tucked away on Broadway Lane in a way that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled onto something the guidebooks missed. I mean, South Cerney isn’t exactly a tourist hotspot – it’s more of that proper Cotswolds village where locals still nod when they pass you on the street – but that’s exactly why this place works so well.
The lodge itself sits at 2 Willow View, and honestly, the name makes perfect sense once you’re there. There’s this lovely willow that sort of frames the property, and the whole setup feels more like staying at someone’s thoughtfully designed country home than a typical hotel. They don’t bother with star ratings, which I actually appreciate – you can tell they’re going for that boutique feel where personality matters more than ticking boxes. The interiors have this relaxed sophistication thing going on, lots of natural textures and colors that actually complement the Gloucestershire countryside instead of fighting it. What I really liked was how quiet it gets in the evenings – you’re far enough from the A419 that traffic isn’t an issue, but close enough that you’re not completely cut off from civilization.
Parking’s straightforward (always a relief in these old villages), and the check-in process was refreshingly human – no corporate script, just genuine conversation about the area. The staff actually know the local walking routes, which restaurants in nearby Cirencester are worth the drive, that sort of thing. I’d say it’s perfect for people who want to explore the Cotswolds without dealing with the crowds in Bourton-on-the-Water or Chipping Campden. The Water Park is literally a few minutes away if you’re into that scene, though honestly, I found the village itself and the surrounding countryside more compelling. One small thing – the WiFi can be a bit patchy in some rooms, but let’s be real, that might actually be a feature rather than a bug depending on what you’re looking for. Overall, it’s one of those places that gets the balance right between comfort and character, and you can tell someone actually cares about the guest experience rather than just running through the motions.

The location was lovely but I slipped on the slippery road outside the accommodation and fractured my ankle within half an hour of our arrival. This ruined the holiday for all 5 of us and I had to be collected early by my daughter as I needed more space in the car. The staff were very helpful.
