Le Mas du Cheval

Le Mas du Cheval Overview
Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first pulled up to Le Mas du Cheval on Avenue de l’Agau – it’s tucked away in this quiet stretch of Lattes that feels miles from the touristy chaos of nearby Montpellier, even though you’re literally ten minutes from the city center. The building itself is this gorgeous old Languedoc farmhouse that’s been transformed into something really special, and I mean that in the best possible way. You know how some boutique hotels try too hard to be quirky? This isn’t that. It feels like someone with incredible taste just decided to open up their beautifully restored country home to a few lucky guests.
The rooms – well, honestly, calling them rooms feels inadequate. Each one has this distinct personality, with original stone walls and beamed ceilings that make you feel like you’re staying in someone’s private retreat rather than a hotel. I stayed in October, which turned out to be perfect timing because the crowds had thinned out but the weather was still warm enough to enjoy their gorgeous garden area. Speaking of the garden, it’s where you really understand why this place has a 9.4 rating. There’s this incredible sense of peace here, with lavender and olive trees scattered around, and you can actually hear birds instead of traffic – which is pretty remarkable considering you’re so close to everything. The parking situation is refreshingly stress-free too, something I definitely don’t take for granted after dealing with Montpellier’s narrow streets.
What really sets this place apart though is how the owners (I think they’re a French couple who clearly know hospitality) have managed to create something that feels both authentic and polished without being stuffy. The breakfast – and I’m usually pretty skeptical about hotel breakfasts – features local ingredients that change with the seasons, and they serve it in this sun-drenched room that overlooks the courtyard. You’re close enough to Palavas-les-Flots that you can easily hit the beach during the day, but far enough from the coastal crowds that evenings feel genuinely tranquil. I actually found myself looking forward to coming back each evening, which rarely happens when I’m traveling. The whole experience feels more like staying with sophisticated friends than checking into a hotel, if that makes sense. It’s definitely not cheap, but honestly? For what you get – the location, the attention to detail, that incredible sense of calm – it’s worth every euro.

Everything, Alexandra was a lovely host and was very helpful in explaining what was around the area. The apartment had everything we needed. It was in a semi rural location but with lots of shops and restaurants an easy drive away.

Beautiful place to stay, very clean and tidy, staff very friendly, lovely pool area, they do have private functions and nightclub onsite that was on Thursday,Friday and Saturday nights, but didn’t affect our stay. If we where 20 years younger we would of joined in ☺️ Easy to walk into lattes along the river takes about 15/20 minutes, where you can...
