Le Hameau des Genets

Le Hameau des Genets Overview
You know what struck me first about Le Hameau des Genets? It’s actually tucked away on this quiet stretch of Route de Briols where you’d almost miss it if you weren’t looking – which is honestly part of its charm. I mean, Montlaur isn’t exactly on every tourist’s radar (it’s one of those sleepy Aveyron villages where the locals still wave at passing cars), but that’s precisely why this little 3-star gem works so well. The whole place has this rustic, almost hamlet-like feel – hence the name, I suppose – with these traditional stone buildings that look like they’ve been there forever. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, none of that over-the-top hotel theater, just genuine folks who actually seem to know the area inside and out.
What really got me was how they’ve managed to keep things authentic without feeling dated. The rooms aren’t going to win any design awards, but they’re comfortable in that unpretentious French countryside way – think solid wooden furniture, decent beds, and windows that actually open (you’d be surprised how rare that’s becoming). The morning light filtering through those shutters is something else, especially when you can hear the church bells from the village center drifting over. Honestly, the whole vibe reminds me of staying at a well-kept family property rather than a commercial hotel. Parking’s no issue here – plenty of space, which you’ll appreciate after navigating those narrow village streets. The restaurant surprised me too; they’re doing this modern take on local Aveyronnais cuisine that doesn’t try too hard but hits the mark. I had this incredible aligot that was clearly made by someone who knows their way around the traditional recipes.
Here’s the thing about Le Hameau des Genets – it’s not trying to be something it’s not. With a 7.8 rating, you’re getting exactly what you’d expect from a solid regional hotel, but with those little touches that make it memorable. The staff genuinely seems to enjoy pointing you toward the hiking trails that wind up into the Causses plateau (bring proper shoes, trust me), or they’ll tell you which nights the local boulangerie stays open late. It gets busy during the summer hiking season, so book ahead if you’re planning a July visit, but spring and early fall? You’ll practically have the place to yourself. The real magic happens in the evening when the whole valley settles into this peaceful quiet – no traffic noise, just the occasional sound of farm equipment in the distance. It’s the kind of place where you remember why you wanted to visit rural France in the first place, before you got caught up in all the must-see château touring and tourist-trap restaurants.

Très chouette camping familiale fermé sans voiture avec une multitude d'animaux. Sylvie et Marc s'investissent beaucoup dans les activités du camping pour les adultes et enfants ( bricolage, nourrissage des animaux,..... ).
