Jenny,s place

HOTEL OVERVIEW
Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of places along the Essex coast, but Jenny’s place on Beach Road? This one actually surprised me. When you first pull up, it’s not screaming “boutique hotel” at you – which honestly is part of its charm. It sits quietly on Beach Road (and thank god the parking situation is sorted, because finding a spot in Saint Osyth during summer can be a nightmare), looking more like someone’s beautifully restored home than a commercial property.
The thing about Jenny’s is that it feels completely intentional without being precious about it, you know? Each room has this carefully curated but lived-in quality – I mean, there’s proper attention to detail here, from the way the morning light hits the windows to how they’ve managed to keep the old character while making everything actually work for modern travelers. The beds are genuinely comfortable, not just Instagram-ready, and the bathrooms have that perfect water pressure you don’t realize you’re missing until you find it again. What really got me though was the breakfast situation – they source locally (the eggs are definitely from somewhere nearby, probably one of the farms off Mill Street), and Jenny actually knows where everything comes from. She’ll tell you about the baker in Clacton or which local producer makes the jam, but in a way that feels like genuine enthusiasm rather than a rehearsed spiel.
Saint Osyth itself is one of those places that’s busy enough in summer without being completely overrun – you’re maybe ten minutes from the beach at Point Clear, fifteen if you want the better stretch of sand toward St. Osyth Beach. The village has that proper English seaside feel without the tacky bits, and honestly, staying at Jenny’s gives you this insider perspective on it all. She knows when the tide’s best for walking, which pub actually does decent food (spoiler: avoid the touristy one near the priory ruins), and how to time your day trips to Mersea Island or Colchester. The 9.7 rating makes complete sense when you realize it’s not trying to be everything to everyone – it’s just doing exactly what it set out to do, really well. If you’re looking for a massive hotel with a spa and room service, this isn’t it. But if you want to feel like you’re staying with someone who genuinely cares about your experience and knows this corner of Essex inside out, well, that’s exactly what you’ll get here.

Caravan was very clean, well equipped. Had all utensils that would need, bedding was ready for us on arrival. Was supplied with everything we needed for the week. Was surprised with how much was there for us to use at the van. We had packed tin openers and they were there too!! It was a home away from home experience. Jenny was very helpful on...
