The location on Wommin Bay Road puts you right where the locals hang out, away from the tourist crowds that swarm Kingscliff Beach during peak season.

I’ll be straight with you – this isn’t one of those flashy resort complexes with marble lobbies and fancy cocktail bars. It’s a proper holiday park, the kind Aussie families have been loving for decades, but they’ve done it right. The cabins are surprisingly well-appointed (I mean, you’ve got proper kitchens and air con that actually works), and there’s something refreshing about a place that doesn’t try to be something it’s not. The kids absolutely lose their minds over the jumping pillow – trust me, pack some extra clothes because they’ll be filthy and exhausted by dinner time. The pool area gets pretty lively during school holidays, but if you’re after quiet, the early morning swims are perfect, with just the sound of kookaburras starting their daily racket.

What I really love is how close you are to everything without being stuck in the middle of it all. Walk five minutes to the Chinderah Tavern for decent pub grub and cold beer, or drive literally three minutes over the bridge to hit Kingscliff’s main beach strip. The staff actually know the area too – they’ll tell you about the rock pools at low tide or where to grab the best fish and chips (it’s not where the tourists think it is). Parking’s never an issue, which honestly is half the battle during summer when Kingscliff turns into a bit of a zoo. The only thing that might bug some people is the train line – you’ll hear the occasional freight train, but it’s not constant and you get used to it pretty quickly. Check-in was smooth, no drama, and they actually seemed happy to see us rather than just going through the motions. For a 4-star rating with nearly an 8 out of 10 from guests, it delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense.
