HOTEL OVERVIEW

You know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of places that call themselves “wellness resorts,” but Hotel Termas Puyehue actually delivers on that promise without all the pretentious nonsense. It’s tucked away on Ruta Internacional 215 – honestly, you might drive right past it if you’re not paying attention because it blends so naturally into the landscape around Puyehue National Park. The thing is, that’s exactly what makes it special. When you pull up (parking’s no problem, by the way), you’re not hit with some flashy lobby or overwhelming grandeur. Instead, there’s this immediate sense of calm that just… settles into your shoulders.

The thermal pools are the real star here, and I mean that literally – they’re fed by natural hot springs that have been bubbling up from the earth long before anyone thought to build a hotel around them. What I love is how they’ve kept things authentic rather than turning it into some artificial spa experience. The water has this slight mineral smell (not unpleasant, just earthy), and honestly, after soaking for an hour while looking out at the Andes, you’ll understand why Chileans have been coming to these springs for generations. The indoor pools are perfect when the weather gets moody – which it does, being so close to the mountains – but the outdoor ones are where you want to be on clear days. I actually met a local family who drives down from Osorno every few months just for the day, and they told me the best time to visit is late afternoon when the light hits the water just right.

Here’s the thing about the rooms – they’re comfortable without being fussy, and most have these huge windows that frame the surrounding forest like living paintings. Don’t expect ultra-modern everything, but that’s not what you’re here for anyway. The service feels genuine rather than scripted, probably because the staff actually seems to enjoy working there (always a good sign). And while they do serve meals, I’d recommend driving the twenty minutes into Puyehue town at least once – there’s this little place called La Casona that serves the best empanadas in the region, according to literally everyone I asked. The hotel’s location means you’re perfectly positioned for day trips to Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park or even the lake district if you’re feeling ambitious, but honestly, you might find yourself too relaxed to venture far. The whole place has this unhurried vibe that’s pretty addictive – I planned to stay two nights and ended up extending to four because, well, when’s the last time you felt genuinely restored rather than just rested?

The swimming pools are exceptional! A lovely range of 3 pools with different temperatures. The walks are beautiful. The buffet is excellent, with a quality range at all mealtimes. The rooms are very comfortable and the whole hotel is exceptionally clean, smells beautiful with tranquil music.

What could be improved: The desks in the bedrooms were scratched and require renewing, the pillows were too soft and flat. Some new walks from the hotel would be very welcome, and the food is very meat-heavy with few tasty vegetarian options. Natural yoghurt at breakfast would also be a great addition.

Beauty of landscape. Classic elegance

What could be improved: Rooms were spartan. No chairs in room.
Only restaurant 30 miles around was the very hotel. Need an all inclusive program or very dear.

The pools and the buffet dinner

What could be improved: The bedroom carpets are old, I suggest to change them. Everything was great, but I didn't like the carpets.

old charming hotel surrounded by nature, perfect for a few days off. outstanding breakfast, nice SPA

What could be improved: interior of the room should be a little modernized/renovated, but should keep the charme

The facility is nice, great grounds and security, helpful front desk. The breakfast is amazing! Pool times are great as well. What could be improved: The pool smells like bleach pretty strongly. You need reservation for the restaurants, so if you check in at 4pm its already too late. We were stuck with the French restaurant for dinner and the food wasn't enough, tasted terrible and the waiter didn't care about us. Expensive of course.
