You know what struck me first about Hillside Cabin? It’s not actually on some touristy main drag – you’re tucked away in the Powys countryside where the only sounds at night are sheep occasionally bleating and maybe a distant tractor in the morning. I mean, Caersws itself is basically a blink-and-you-miss-it kind of place, but that’s exactly why this spot works so well.
The whole Love2stay operation here feels refreshingly unpolished in the best way possible. None of that sterile boutique hotel nonsense where everything’s beige and intimidating. Instead, you get this properly Welsh cabin experience that actually delivers on the cozy factor without feeling like someone’s trying too hard to be quirky. The owners clearly know what they’re doing – there’s hot water when you need it (honestly, not always a given in rural Wales), decent WiFi if you absolutely must check emails, and they’ve thought through the little things like having proper reading lights and enough plug sockets. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, no lengthy speeches about amenities you’ll never use.
What really sells this place is the location itself. You’re maybe twenty minutes from Newtown if you need proper shops or a decent pub meal, but close enough to some brilliant walking territory that most people never discover. The Kerry Ridgeway is practically on your doorstep if you’re into proper hiking, and honestly, the views up there on a clear day make you understand why people get all misty-eyed about Mid Wales. Parking’s never an issue – there’s plenty of space and you don’t have to navigate narrow village streets with your wing mirrors tucked in. The 9.2 rating makes perfect sense when you stay here; it’s one of those places where small details are sorted and nothing feels half-done or like an afterthought. Sure, it’s not going to have a spa or room service, but if you wanted that, you’d probably be looking at somewhere with more concrete and fewer fields anyway. Perfect for switching off properly without feeling like you’re roughing it.
