I’d driven past Ocean Edge Holiday Park countless times heading to the ferry terminal, always assuming it was just another caravan site – but tucked away here is this genuinely special little place that feels more like staying at a friend’s beautifully designed beach house than any hotel I’ve experienced.

The thing is, they don’t bother with star ratings because honestly, how do you categorize something this unique? The moment you step inside, you get it – someone’s put serious thought into every detail without making it feel precious or try-hard. The rooms have this effortless coastal vibe, all natural textures and that perfect lived-in comfort that actually lets you relax. What really gets me is how they’ve maximized those sea views; you can literally watch the tide come and go from bed, and on clear days you’ll spot the Lake District fells across Morecambe Bay. I mean, that’s a view you’d pay premium rates for in the Cotswolds, but here it just feels like this wonderful secret.

The location’s actually brilliant once you realize what you’re dealing with – yes, you’re technically in a holiday park, but Heysham village is right there with its proper pubs (the Royal in particular does fantastic fish and chips), and you can walk to the ruins of St. Patrick’s Chapel in about ten minutes if you fancy a bit of history with your sea air. The coastal path runs literally past your door, so you can walk all the way to Morecambe if you’re feeling ambitious, or just wander down to the rocky shore where locals go crabbing with their kids. Parking’s never an issue, which anyone who’s tried to stay anywhere decent along this coast will appreciate, and honestly the whole setup just works. The staff clearly live locally – they’ll tell you when the best tides are for beach walks or which days the Morecambe market’s worth visiting. It’s that kind of genuine local knowledge you can’t fake. The 9.6 rating makes complete sense when you stay here; it’s not trying to be everything to everyone, but what it does – that perfect blend of comfort, location, and genuine character – it absolutely nails. This is the kind of place you’ll find yourself recommending to people months later.
