Halifax Holiday Park
You know what surprised me most about Halifax Holiday Park? It’s actually right there on Beach Road – like, literally a two-minute walk to the sand – but somehow it doesn’t feel touristy or cramped. I mean, Nelson Bay can get pretty hectic during peak season (especially around Christmas when half of Sydney descends on the place), but this spot manages to feel sort of tucked away despite being so close to everything.
The thing is, they’ve got this layout that just works. The cabins are spread out enough that you’re not hearing your neighbor’s TV through the walls, and honestly, the park itself is way more spacious than you’d expect for something this close to the bay. I stayed in one of their newer cabins – clean lines, decent kitchen setup, and the air conditioning actually keeps up with those brutal February afternoons we get around here. What I really appreciated was the little deck area; perfect for morning coffee before the day gets too hot. The bathrooms are proper hotel-standard too, not that camping-ground-special you sometimes get at holiday parks. There’s even decent water pressure, which… well, if you’ve stayed at budget places around Port Stephens, you’ll know that’s not always a given.
Location-wise, you’re golden here. Walk five minutes toward the marina and you’re at the ferry terminal for those dolphin cruises everyone raves about (though honestly, go early morning or late afternoon – better light and the dolphins are more active). The main strip with all the cafes and that excellent fish and chips place is maybe a seven-minute stroll. But here’s the thing locals know – if you walk the other direction toward Shoal Bay, you hit this quieter stretch of beach that’s perfect when the main Nelson Bay area gets too crowded. The staff actually mentioned this when I checked in, which was nice – felt like they cared about giving you the real experience, not just processing another booking. Parking’s easy too, which is honestly half the battle during summer weekends. The whole setup just feels… I don’t know, thoughtful? Like someone who actually stays at holiday parks designed it, rather than just trying to cram in as many beds as possible. At that 9.0 rating, you might expect it to be pricey, but it’s surprisingly reasonable for what you get and where you are.

Not sure whether it was because of mobile towers but our wifi connection was slow, not a problem on the weekends but when trying to get onto emails for work on the weekdays, it was very slow
Could be improved
Rain shower head, mirrors on backs of doors need to come up higher

Very expensive. $330 per night for a budget cabin.

The location was fantastic, embedded in between two shores with a private access to the beach which has wonderful views. The facilities were top notch, that included a camp kitchen with all necessary utencils. The cleanliness was great too. What could be improved: A bit pricey and one can argue on the value for money. The cabins still felt a bit...
