Haggerston castle caravan rental. Annie’s den

HOTEL OVERVIEW
Okay, so here’s the thing about Annie’s Den at Haggerston Castle – it’s not actually what you’d expect when someone says “castle.” I mean, yes, there’s a proper castle on the grounds (13th century, pretty impressive), but Annie’s Den is one of the caravan rentals scattered around the estate, and honestly? That’s exactly what makes it special.
The whole setup sits right on the Northumberland coast, literally a stone’s throw from the Scottish border – you’re basically equidistant between Berwick-upon-Tweed and Holy Island, which gives you this amazing sense of being somewhere really significant without the tourist crowds. The caravan itself is surprisingly cozy, and whoever Annie is (or was), she clearly knew what she was doing with the interior. It’s got that lived-in feel that makes you want to kick off your shoes immediately, but everything’s clean and well-maintained. The kitchen’s actually functional – not just a token mini-fridge situation – and the heating works properly, which trust me, matters when you’re this close to the North Sea in anything but high summer.
What really gets me about this place is the location within the park. You’ve got direct access to the beach, and I’m talking about proper Northumberland coastline here – dramatic, windswept, the kind of place where you can walk for miles and maybe see three other people. The kids’ facilities are decent if you’re traveling with family, but it never feels overrun because the grounds are so sprawling. Parking’s right by your door, which is clutch when you’re hauling groceries or gear, and the site management actually seems to care about keeping things tidy. Check-in was straightforward, though I’d recommend arriving before 5 PM – the office keeps pretty standard hours and you don’t want to be fumbling around in the dark trying to find your pitch.
The real magic happens at night when you can hear the waves from your bed and see more stars than you remember existing. It’s quiet in that proper countryside way – no traffic hum, just wind and water and the occasional sheep. During the day, you’re perfectly positioned for exploring the Borders region, but honestly, you might find yourself just wanting to stay put and soak up the atmosphere. The whole experience feels like staying at a friend’s family place rather than a commercial holiday rental, which I suppose is the point of places like this.
