Golf and Leisure Retreat
Golf and Leisure Retreat Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Golf and Leisure Retreat on Beccles Road, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect — the name sounds a bit generic, doesn’t it? But you know what, this four-star property tucked away in Caldecott Hall Country Park completely surprised me. The setting is genuinely peaceful, surrounded by rolling countryside that feels worlds away from the bustle of Great Yarmouth proper. There’s something refreshing about a place that doesn’t try too hard to impress you upfront but just lets the natural beauty do the talking.
Location and Setting
The location really is something special — I mean, recent guests rated it 9.1 for good reason. You’re nestled in this lovely country park setting, but still close enough to Great Yarmouth’s attractions when you want them. What I appreciated most was the free private parking right on site, which honestly takes away so much stress when you’re exploring Norfolk. The retreat sits in what feels like its own little world, with walking paths winding through the grounds and plenty of space to just… breathe. Couples seem to absolutely love it here, and I can see why — there’s something romantic about the countryside views and the quiet evenings.
The Accommodation Experience
My room was comfortable without being flashy, which actually suited the whole vibe perfectly. The furnishings felt thoughtful rather than generic, and I loved having a view out over the grounds. The staff clearly understand that people come here to unwind — they’re attentive but not hovering, if you know what I mean. What struck me most was how well-maintained everything felt, from the common areas to the outdoor spaces. It’s the kind of place where you can settle in with a book by the window and lose track of time completely.
Dining and Amenities
The on-site restaurant focuses on hearty, well-prepared meals that complement the countryside setting perfectly. I mean, you’re not going to find molecular gastronomy here, but honestly, that’s not what you want in a place like this. The menu leans into local ingredients and comfort food done well — exactly what hits the spot after a day exploring Norfolk or just wandering the country park. The portions are generous, and there’s something satisfying about dining somewhere that feels connected to its surroundings rather than trying to transport you somewhere else entirely.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps people coming back — and earning this place its impressive 8.6 rating — is how it delivers on its promise of being a proper retreat. You’re getting genuine peace and quiet, beautiful natural surroundings, and that increasingly rare feeling of being somewhere that hasn’t been over-commercialized. The fact that couples rate it so highly tells you everything about the romantic potential of those countryside walks and quiet evenings. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Norfolk, but it absolutely nails what it sets out to do: give you space to relax and reconnect, whether that’s with your partner or just with yourself.
The best resort villages feature carefully designed properties that harmonize with their natural surroundings, offering guests authentic experiences combined with luxury amenities and exceptional hospitality.

We stayed here for 5 days with 3 children, we all had an amazing time. The children loved the pool that was onsite. The caravan was clean and immaculate throughout, the owners had good communication. Me and my mum thought it was a lovely gesture to leave some milk, bread and a few other necessities for our stay. We would definitely return.
