HOTEL OVERVIEW

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the Golden Anchor The Granada 6 Berth on Trunch Lane, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Chapel Saint Leonards isn’t exactly the most glamorous spot along the Lincolnshire coast, but sometimes that’s exactly what you need. This place sits tucked away from the main tourist drag, which means you’re not dealing with the chaos of Skegness but you’re still close enough to actually enjoy the seaside without the hour-long drive.

What struck me right away was how the owners have really leaned into the whole boutique experience without trying too hard, you know? There’s no pretentious star rating hanging over the door – they’re just doing their own thing, and honestly, it works. The six-berth setup means you’ve got proper space to spread out, which is rare for coastal accommodation that doesn’t cost a fortune. I mean, the nautical theme could’ve gone horribly wrong (I’ve seen plenty of places that look like a maritime museum exploded), but they’ve kept it subtle – some rope details here, weathered wood there, nothing that makes you feel like you’re trapped in a themed restaurant. The beds are actually comfortable too, and the heating works properly, which… well, if you’ve spent any time in seaside rentals, you’ll know that’s not always a given.

The location is pretty clever when you think about it. Trunch Lane keeps you away from the summer crowds, but you’re still walking distance to the beach – maybe ten minutes if you’re not in a rush. There’s decent parking right there, which is gold dust during peak season when everyone’s fighting for spots near the seafront. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – none of that awkward “we’ll be there between 3 and 6” nonsense that some places pull. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. You can actually hear the sea in the distance when the wind’s right, but you’re not getting the usual seaside town soundtrack of seagulls at dawn and late-night revelers stumbling past your window. Chapel Saint Leonards has this sort of old-school English seaside charm that hasn’t been completely commercialized yet – there’s still a proper fish and chip shop that locals actually use, and the beach doesn’t get absolutely packed even in summer. If you’re looking for something that feels authentic rather than polished, and you want space to actually relax without feeling like you’re camping, this place gets it right.
