The building itself feels like someone’s stylish aunt converted her Norman countryside home into something between a boutique hotel and an artist’s retreat.

The rooms have this lived-in elegance that’s hard to fake – think exposed beams that are actually original, not the fake ones you see everywhere, mixed with contemporary touches that actually make sense. I mean, the bathroom in my room had this gorgeous rainfall shower, but they kept the old stone walls around it instead of covering everything in generic tile. What really impressed me was the attention to small details that most places miss entirely. The reading lights actually work for reading (revolutionary concept, right?), there’s proper thick curtains that block out light, and – this might sound weird – but the wifi password was handwritten on actual nice paper, not some laminated card that’s been touched by a thousand hands. The breakfast setup happens in this common area that spills onto a little garden courtyard, and honestly, sitting out there with coffee while listening to the neighborhood wake up felt more like staying at a friend’s place than a hotel.

The location works really well if you know how to use it. You’re close enough to walk to Plage de Coutainville in about eight minutes – I timed it because I’m that person – but far enough inland that you don’t get the constant stream of day-trippers walking past your window. There’s actually decent parking right on the street, which anyone who’s driven around French coastal towns in summer will appreciate. The owners clearly live locally and know their stuff; they pointed me toward this little seafood spot called Le Bout du Monde that I never would have found otherwise, and steered me away from the tourist traps near the casino. During my stay in early September, the place had this perfect balance – busy enough that there was energy and other travelers to chat with, but not so packed that you felt like you were fighting for space. I’d probably avoid July and August if you want that same vibe, honestly. The whole experience just felt authentic in a way that’s getting harder to find, especially in beach towns that have been discovered by Instagram. It’s the kind of place where you actually want to hang around the property instead of just using it as somewhere to crash.
