Fraser Coast Top Tourist Park
You know what struck me first about Fraser Coast Top Tourist Park? It’s actually not your typical cramped caravan park experience – there’s this surprising sense of space once you get past the somewhat dated entrance. Located on Denmans Camp Road in Scarness, it sits in that sweet spot where you’re close enough to Hervey Bay’s main strip to walk to decent cafes, but far enough back that you’re not dealing with the weekend noise from the esplanade bars.
The facilities here are honestly better than I expected for a 4-star park. The pool area gets absolutely packed during school holidays (fair warning if you’re traveling then), but mid-week it’s pretty peaceful. I mean, the amenities block could use a refresh – it’s clean but feels like it hasn’t been updated since the early 2000s. What I really appreciated though was how well-maintained the powered sites are. You’ll actually get decent water pressure in the showers, which anyone who’s stayed at budget parks knows isn’t a given. The camp kitchen is surprisingly well-equipped too, though it gets a bit chaotic around dinner time when families are all trying to cook at once.
Here’s the thing about this place – it’s genuinely popular with locals, which tells you something. During whale watching season (roughly July to November), you’ll see plenty of Queensland families who’ve been coming here for years. The staff seem to know half their guests by name, which creates this oddly welcoming atmosphere you don’t always get at tourist parks. The location really works in its favor too – you’re literally five minutes from the Urangan Marina if you’re doing a Fraser Island day trip, and there’s a decent IGA just down the road for supplies. Parking’s never an issue, unlike some of the beachfront places. The 7.0 rating feels about right, honestly – it’s solid and reliable rather than spectacular, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want. If you’re looking for Instagram-worthy luxury, keep looking, but if you want a functional base that won’t break the bank while you explore the Fraser Coast, this place delivers without any nasty surprises.

So close to the beach and waterfront. One night only, but served the purpose to a high standard. The show of bats in the evening is amazing!!

We liked the position & the price.
Absolutely loved the pool, it was clean & long enough to actually swim.

A little bit under stocked in the kitchen. No proper bowls - they were really shallow & only 2 teaspoons & only 3 coffee cups. The detergent for washing up was terrible but overall we managed nicely.

Facilities in room were good, nice sized open living area & bedroom. Well positioned power points on either side of bed. Bed was comfortable.

We found the bathroom really small, hook for towel was hanging off the wall. Parking was a little tight for our Prado between cabins, along with manoeuvring in/out of it.

The cabins are needing some TLC. The shelves beside the bed were hanging by a thread. The knobs for the ceiling fans were missing so we couldn’t control the fans.

Convenient location. Thai next door.

Lots of room noises from unit above. Lighting was poor. No power outlet near bed for CPAP machine. The unit was old but otherwise comfortable.
