First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Forest Lodge 18 at Hafan Y Mor, I’ll be honest — I wasn’t expecting much from a holiday park lodge. But this four-star place completely changed my mind about what a forest retreat could be. The lodge sits tucked away among mature trees, and there’s something immediately calming about hearing the wind rustle through the branches instead of traffic noise. You know what really struck me? How private it felt, even though you’re technically part of a larger holiday park.
The Space Itself
The room layout here is actually quite clever — it doesn’t feel cramped like some holiday lodges can. There’s a proper living area that flows naturally into the dining space, and the kitchen is surprisingly well-equipped for a place like this. I mean, you can actually cook a decent meal without feeling like you’re working in a shoebox. The bedrooms are comfortable enough, though nothing fancy — but honestly, when you’re surrounded by this much greenery, you’ll probably spend most of your time outdoors anyway.
Location and Surroundings
Here’s where this place really shines — the location in Chwilog puts you right in the heart of some seriously beautiful Welsh countryside. You’re close enough to the coast that a quick drive gets you to some stunning beaches, but far enough inland that you feel properly immersed in nature. The holiday park itself has facilities if you need them, but I found myself just wandering the woodland paths most evenings. There’s decent parking right by the lodge, which matters more than you’d think when you’re hauling groceries or beach gear.
What Makes It Special
What I really appreciated was how this place strikes a balance between comfort and that authentic forest experience. You’ve got modern amenities when you need them, but step outside and you’re genuinely surrounded by nature. The lodge feels substantial — not like one of those flimsy cabins that shake every time someone walks across the floor. I spent quite a bit of time on the deck with my morning coffee, just listening to the birds and planning the day ahead. It’s the kind of place where you actually slow down, which is rarer than it should be.
Why Guests Love It
Couples seem to really connect with this place, and I can see why — there’s something romantic about being tucked away in the forest together. The peace and quiet here is genuine, not forced, and you can easily spend days just exploring the surrounding area or relaxing at the lodge. The fact that recent guests consistently rate the location so highly tells you everything you need to know. It’s not trying to be something it’s not — just a well-designed forest retreat that delivers exactly what you hope for when you book a nature getaway in Wales.
