Eagle 4a, Scratby – California Cliffs, Parkdean, sleeps 8, bed linen and towels included, pet friendly and close to the beach

HOTEL OVERVIEW
You know what caught me off guard about Eagle 4a? It’s not technically a hotel at all – it’s actually a holiday caravan at Parkdean’s Scratby resort, but honestly, it feels way more personal than most chain hotels I’ve stayed at. The whole “boutique hotel without official star rating” thing makes sense once you’re there, because this place has character that you just can’t manufacture. I mean, where else are you going to find accommodation that sleeps eight people, welcomes your dog, and sits practically on Norfolk’s doorstep for less than what you’d pay for a cramped city hotel room?
The location is pretty brilliant if you know the area – Scratby sits right between Great Yarmouth’s chaos and the quieter stretches of coast heading toward Winterton. You’re close enough to pop into Yarmouth for fish and chips or the Pleasure Beach (about ten minutes in the car), but far enough out that you’re not dealing with hen parties stumbling past your window at 2am. The beach access is genuinely good here – it’s one of those proper Norfolk beaches where you can actually spread out, and the kids can run around without you panicking every five seconds. What I really appreciated was having all the bed linen and towels sorted – sounds basic, but when you’re traveling with a group of eight, that’s one less headache to deal with.
The caravan itself surprised me, actually. It’s got that holiday park vibe, sure, but everything felt clean and well-maintained. The heating worked properly (which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given at coastal places), and there was enough space that our group didn’t feel like we were stepping on each other constantly. The kitchen setup is decent enough for proper cooking if you want to grab supplies from the Tesco in Caister – though I’d recommend hitting up the local butcher on the high street instead, their sausages are genuinely excellent. Pet-friendly actually means pet-friendly here too, not just “we’ll tolerate your dog for an extra £50.” Ours settled in immediately, and there’s plenty of space around the resort for proper walks. The only minor thing I’d mention is that it can get a bit lively during school holidays – families with young kids tend to gather near the entertainment areas, so if you’re after complete peace and quiet, maybe aim for term time. But honestly, for the money and the location, plus that solid 8.6 rating from other guests, Eagle 4a delivers exactly what it promises – a proper base for exploring this bit of Norfolk without the fuss or expense of traditional hotels.
