Discovery Parks – Jindabyne
You know what struck me first about Discovery Parks Jindabyne? It’s actually set back from the main drag on Kosciuszko Road – which sounds busy but honestly isn’t once you’re tucked into the property. I mean, you’re literally five minutes from Lake Jindabyne’s foreshore, but there’s this sense of being in your own little pocket away from the weekend warrior crowds that descend on the town center.
The whole setup feels more like a proper resort than your typical holiday park, and I think that 4-star rating actually undersells it a bit. The cabins have this modern mountain lodge vibe – none of that dated timber paneling you sometimes get in ski country accommodation. What really impressed me was the attention to heating (crucial when you’re dealing with those Snowy Mountains nights, even in summer), and the kitchens are actually functional if you want to cook rather than just heat up instant noodles. The staff seem to genuinely know the area too – they pointed me toward some lesser-known walking tracks around the lake that I never would’ve found otherwise. Check-in was smooth, parking’s abundant (thank god, because finding a spot in central Jindabyne during peak season is like winning the lottery), and honestly, the whole place just runs well without feeling overly managed.
Here’s the thing about staying here versus right in town – you get the best of both worlds. You can walk to the lake easily, but you’re not dealing with the noise from the pubs on weekend nights or the early morning boat trailer chaos that happens closer to the main boat ramps. If you’re here for skiing, Perisher is still just a 30-minute drive up the mountain, but you’re paying Jindabyne prices, not on-mountain accommodation rates. The facilities are solid – decent pool area, playground that actually looks maintained, and barbecue spots that don’t feel like afterthoughts. I particularly liked that they have proper outdoor settings, not just those flimsy plastic tables you see everywhere. During my stay in March, the place was busy but not packed, and there was this nice mix of families and couples without the party crowd you sometimes get at lake destinations. The 8.7 rating makes sense – it’s the kind of place that does the basics really well and adds enough extras to feel special without trying too hard.

The cabin was fairly new.. I liked the modern kitchen with a dishwasher and the modern bathroom which included shampoo, conditioner and lotion. I'm pretty sure the cabin had double glazing as there was no outside noise when it was all closed up What could be improved: If I had to pick something I didn't like, id say the distance to town. Just a little unfortunate with the location of this particular cabin as the sun disappeared behind the trees at 3pm already.

Lovely cabins (especially the new ones). Picturesque location by the lake. Helpful staff.

The Thai restaurant on site is pretty basic and otherwise you have to drive into Jindabyne to find something to eat.
