Discovery Parks – Clare
Look, I’ll be honest – when you first pull up to Discovery Parks Clare on Horrocks Highway, it doesn’t immediately scream “fancy getaway.” But you know what? That’s actually part of its charm. This place gets the balance right between proper accommodation and that relaxed, no-pressure vibe that makes the Clare Valley so appealing in the first place.
The thing about staying here is you’re genuinely in wine country – I mean, you can practically smell the vineyards when the wind’s right, and you’re close enough to places like Skillogalee and Grosset that you could honestly walk to some cellar doors if you felt ambitious after a big lunch. The cabins themselves are well, pretty much what you’d expect from a solid 4-star park setup, but they’ve clearly put thought into the details. Decent kitchens (actually useful if you’ve gone overboard at the Clare Valley farmers market), comfortable beds, and – this matters more than you’d think – proper hot water pressure. I’ve stayed at fancier places where the shower was basically a sad drizzle, so credit where it’s due.
What really works about this spot is how it sits in the landscape. You’re not stuck in some isolated compound – the town’s right there when you want a proper coffee or dinner at one of those bistros that does surprisingly good food, but you’ve got space to breathe too. The staff seem to actually know the area, which sounds obvious but honestly isn’t always the case. They’ll point you toward the less obvious wineries or mention when there’s live music at the pub without making it feel like they’re reading from a script. Parking’s straightforward (thank god, because navigating with a car full of wine purchases gets stressful), and check-in was refreshingly quick – none of that “let me tell you about every single facility” routine that eats into your afternoon. The 8.1 rating makes sense; it’s the kind of place that does what it promises without drama, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need when you’re planning to spend most of your time exploring the valley anyway.

Love the park, its facilities and just the whole vibe. The wine tasting right next door at the tourist centre was such a lovely convenience too. What could be improved: Only one aircon in the living room of the unit… the suns full pelt I to the main bedroom all afternoon left it like a mini sauna… but it was also high summer so leaving the door...

As a last minute booking we were limited to choices, next time I would plan ahead and book a bigger cabin.

It was convenient to the function I was attending.

It was $201 for a small not luxurious cabin, I booked 6 months earlier and could’ve saved $30-$40 by booking later…(even on the day of the event)

Location is great. Facilities throughout the park are well equipped and maintained. For example the camp shelter has 2 gas pizza ovens you can use.

We stayed in a standard cabin and the bed was awful. If your partner is heavier than you expect to sleep on a slope.
