Discovery Parks – Byron Bay
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Discovery Parks on Ewingsdale Road, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best spots are the ones that don’t try too hard to impress you upfront. This place actually gets Byron Bay right in a way that a lot of the flashier resorts completely miss.
The thing about staying here is you’re perfectly positioned without being stuck in the madness of town. Ewingsdale Road puts you maybe ten minutes from the lighthouse walk (which, trust me, you want to do at sunrise when the crowds haven’t hit yet), but you’re far enough out that you can actually hear birds instead of backpackers stumbling home at 3am. I mean, Byron’s great and all, but the peace and quiet here after a day of dealing with the Jonson Street circus? Priceless. The cabins themselves are nothing fancy – think clean, functional, with that slightly worn-in feel that somehow makes you relax immediately. Air conditioning works well, which matters more than you’d think during those humid February weeks when even the locals are complaining.
What really sold me on this place was the little stuff. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no pretentious lobby nonsense, just friendly people who actually know the area. The woman at reception told me about this little bakery in Ewingsdale (about five minutes away) that does these incredible sourdough pastries – turns out she was absolutely right. There’s decent parking right outside your cabin, which sounds boring until you’ve spent twenty minutes circling Byron looking for a spot that doesn’t cost more than your dinner. Honestly, the whole setup feels more like staying at a friend’s holiday house than a typical tourist park. Sure, you might hear your neighbors if they’re having a loud phone call, but the trade-off is you’re surrounded by actual trees instead of concrete. The pool area gets busy around 4pm when families come back from the beach, but mornings are usually pretty quiet if you want to swim some laps. And here’s something I didn’t expect – the walking tracks right from the property connect up with some of the less crowded paths toward the hinterland. Perfect for those days when you’ve had enough of the beach crowds but still want to be outside. It’s not going to win any design awards, but Discovery Parks gets the fundamentals right – clean, comfortable, reasonably priced, and positioned so you can enjoy Byron without the chaos consuming your entire trip.

Being in a duplex wasn’t in the description of the booking and having a family with a small child that ran up and down morning and night shaking the whole place and slamming doors was not relaxing at all. It was also a bit far from town.

Property is well situated and only a few mins drive from the centre of Byron Bay. It’s very well equipped for young families and I would defo recommend to anyone travelling on the East Coast with kids. Our place was spotless and the staff were great. Overall a brilliant experience and we’re glad we broke up our road trip with a few nights here! ...
