Del Rio Riverside Resort
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled into Del Rio Riverside Resort on Chaseling Road – honestly, the whole Wisemans Ferry area can be hit or miss with accommodations. But this place actually surprised me in the best way. The moment you walk onto the property, there’s this immediate sense that someone really thought about the guest experience here. It’s not trying to be some flashy five-star palace, but it nails that sweet spot where everything just works without feeling stuffy or overly formal.
The location is honestly perfect if you’re looking to disconnect without being completely isolated. Chaseling Road is quiet enough that you’re not dealing with traffic noise, but you’re still close enough to the ferry crossing that you can easily explore both sides of the Hawkesbury. I mean, you can literally walk down to the river in a few minutes, and there’s something pretty magical about having morning coffee while watching the old chain ferry do its thing across the water. The rooms – well, they’re exactly what you’d want from a solid four-star place. Nothing revolutionary, but the beds are actually comfortable (I’m picky about this), the bathrooms are properly updated, and you get that river glimpse from most of the accommodations that makes you remember why you came out here in the first place.
What really sets Del Rio apart though is the staff’s genuine knowledge of the area. They’ll tell you about the hiking trails that most tourists miss, or which pub actually has the better schnitzel (spoiler: it’s not always the obvious choice). The resort itself has this relaxed vibe that somehow manages to feel both polished and unpretentious – like they’ve figured out that good hospitality doesn’t need to be complicated. Check-in was smooth, parking is plentiful (always a relief), and the whole place has this clean, well-maintained feel without being sterile. I stayed during shoulder season and it was pleasantly quiet, though I imagine it gets pretty lively during summer weekends when the Sydney crowd discovers it. The 8.4 rating makes complete sense to me – it’s the kind of place that consistently delivers what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. If you’re planning a Hawkesbury River getaway and want somewhere that feels like a proper retreat without the pretension, Del Rio hits that mark really well.

Fans or AC in the room as it gets very hot in the room on hot days so you have to stay or sleep in the lounge

The location is fantastic, right on the river. We loved catching the car ferry across the river too! The pool and water park was great and the putt putt golf and buggies kept everyone occupied. The birds and the kangaroos were beautiful attracted by the gorgeous gardens and giant jacarandas and Morton bay fig trees. Just a magic spot! There is...
