Coral Coast Tourist Park Overview

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Coral Coast Tourist Park on Ingham Road, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes those assumptions bite you in the rear, because this spot actually surprised me in the best way possible.

The thing about staying here is that you’re getting that proper Aussie caravan park experience without feeling like you’re roughing it. I mean, sure, it’s not the Hilton, but there’s something genuinely refreshing about a place that knows exactly what it is and does it well. The grounds are honestly pretty well-maintained – you can tell someone actually cares about the place rather than just collecting booking fees. I stayed in one of their cabin units, and while it wasn’t huge, everything worked properly (which, let’s face it, doesn’t always happen even at fancier places). The air con was a godsend during those sticky Townsville nights, and the little kitchenette meant I could grab groceries from the Woolies down the road instead of eating takeaway every meal.

What really sold me on this place was the location – and I don’t mean that in the generic “convenient location” way that every hotel claims. Being on Ingham Road puts you in this sweet spot where you’re not stuck in the touristy Castle Hill area with all the crowds, but you’re still close enough to actually get to the good stuff without spending half your day in traffic. The Strand is maybe a 10-minute drive, and honestly, having that bit of distance meant I could come back to somewhere quiet when the waterfront got too hectic. Plus, there’s this little Indian place called Maharaja just a few minutes away that does incredible butter chicken – the kind of local gem you’d never find if you were staying in some generic hotel downtown. The staff here actually know the area too, which sounds obvious but you’d be surprised how many places employ people who’ve never left the front desk. When I asked about good fishing spots, the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a brochure – he drew me a little map to a spot near the breakwater that locals use. That’s the kind of thing that makes a difference, you know? The 8.7 rating makes complete sense once you’ve been there. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, the price is fair dinkum reasonable, and you leave feeling like you got exactly what you paid for, maybe even a bit more.

Lovely friendly staff and service (had aircon on in my cabin before I checked in which was so wonderful in the summer!) Great facilities, cabin had everything needed for a comfortable stay such as good size fridge, 2 burner cook-top, microwave, and cooking implements and cutlery/crockery. The bed was very comfortable and we had a great night's sleep. The car park next to the cabin was a good size and easy to drive into.

What could be improved: You can't keep the air-conditioning on if you go out as you have to put the key in to turn it on. We stayed for Christmas and it was very hot and humid, so when we got back it took awhile for the air-conditioning to cool the room down again. Also when my husband went to visit his brother one night I couldn't go to sleep until he got back as we only had the one key and I needed it to keep the air-conditioning on.

What could be improved: Was a little far away from town
