Churchwood Valley
First Impressions
Honestly, Churchwood Valley caught me off guard in the best possible way. You know how sometimes you book a place based on photos and hope it lives up to expectations? Well, this four-star retreat in Wembury actually exceeded mine. The moment you pull into their free parking area — which, let’s be real, is a godsend around here — you’re immediately struck by how peaceful everything feels. It’s like the world just… quiets down.
The Setting
What really sets this place apart is its location in the South Devon countryside, just a stone’s throw from some of the most stunning coastal walks you’ll find anywhere. I mean, you’re literally minutes from the South West Coast Path, and the views over Plymouth Sound are something else entirely. The property sits in this gorgeous valley setting that feels completely removed from the hustle of Plymouth city center, yet you’re only about 20 minutes away when you need civilization. Couples absolutely rave about this spot — and I can see why, given how romantic those sunset walks along Wembury Beach can be.
Accommodation Experience
The room I stayed in had this lovely blend of modern comfort and countryside charm that worked really well. Large windows frame the valley views perfectly, and there’s something quite soothing about waking up to rolling green hills rather than traffic noise. The furnishings feel thoughtfully chosen rather than just functional — you know, the kind of place where someone actually cared about creating a proper retreat atmosphere. What impressed me most was how quiet everything was; you really do feel like you’re in your own little pocket of Devon.
Exploring the Area
Here’s what I wish someone had told me before arriving: pack your walking boots and bring a good camera. The coastal path from Wembury to Noss Mayo is absolutely spectacular, especially if you time it right with the tides. There’s also this fantastic little beach at Wembury that’s perfect for rock pooling if you’re into that sort of thing. The National Trust manages a lot of the surrounding area, so the landscapes are beautifully preserved. On days when the weather doesn’t cooperate — and this is Devon, so that happens — you’re still well-positioned for exploring Plymouth’s historic Barbican or popping over to the National Marine Aquarium.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps drawing people back to Churchwood Valley is that rare combination of genuine tranquility and accessibility to Devon’s highlights. Recent guests consistently rate the location as exceptional, and after spending time here, I completely understand why. It’s the kind of place where you can properly unwind without feeling cut off from everything interesting. Whether you’re planning romantic walks along dramatic coastlines or simply want somewhere peaceful to recharge, this valley setting delivers exactly what you’re hoping for. The fact that it manages to feel both secluded and well-connected is honestly quite remarkable for this part of Devon.
Each resort village provides a unique blend of privacy and community, where guests enjoy villa-style accommodations while having access to shared amenities and social experiences.

Been looking to come her for years and never got round to it! A real escape from it all place where nature takes centre stage. Walking down to Wembury beach and easy access to the coast path and short drives to excellent pubs what more can you ask for. There's an onsite shop and everyone we spoke to were just brilliant and so enthusiastic about the...

the location was perfect, very quiet area with so much nature. there were tree houses which you could add food in and you would see a different bird every time you looked. there is a beach only 10 minute walk away and some very cute paths to take to it. I loved it.

It was convenient for us to use as it was only an hour journey from where we live. The beach was a few minutes away and our dogs were able to play on the beach every day last day. Our chalet was above a field overlooking valley small valley with horses and the stream at the bottom, we will return again.
