CHALÉS DO TEJO
CHALÉS DO TEJO Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to CHALÉS DO TEJO along the Estrada Nacional 118, I honestly wasn’t expecting much — it’s one of those places you might drive past without a second glance. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries are the ones hiding in plain sight. This four-star property sits right by the Tagus River in Muge, and there’s something immediately calming about the whole setup. The chalets are scattered around the property in a way that feels natural, not like someone just plunked them down wherever there was space.
The Chalet Experience
My room was actually more like a small house — these aren’t your typical hotel accommodations. Each chalet has its own character, with wooden details and large windows that frame views of either the river or the surrounding countryside. The kitchen setup was particularly impressive, well-equipped enough that I actually cooked a few meals instead of driving into town every night. There’s something satisfying about preparing dinner while watching the sun set over the Tagus through your window.
Location & Surroundings
The location really is special, and I can see why couples rate it so highly — it’s got that romantic, secluded feel without being completely cut off from civilization. You’re about an hour from Lisbon, but it feels like you’re in a different world entirely. The river is right there, and I spent quite a bit of time just walking along the banks in the evening. Free parking is available right on-site, which is honestly a relief when you’re exploring rural Portugal and never quite sure where you’ll be able to leave your car.
Dining & Amenities
The on-site restaurant focuses on regional cuisine, and I mean really regional — they source a lot of their ingredients locally, which you can taste in dishes like the grilled fish and traditional Portuguese stews. The staff actually knows the local fishermen and farmers, which gives the whole dining experience an authentic feel that’s hard to find these days. Breakfast is served with views of the river, and there’s nothing quite like starting your day watching the mist rise off the water while you sip your coffee.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is the peace and quiet — I slept better here than I had in months. The combination of river sounds and complete absence of city noise creates this cocoon of tranquility that’s genuinely restorative. It’s the kind of place where you find yourself slowing down without even realizing it, spending longer over meals and actually reading that book you brought. The staff treats you more like a guest in their home than a hotel customer, and that personal touch makes all the difference when you’re trying to disconnect from the usual routine.
Each resort village provides a unique blend of privacy and community, where guests enjoy villa-style accommodations while having access to shared amenities and social experiences.

Staff was very friendly and the chalet was very well furnished.
Unfortunately the weather didn't allow us to enjoy the pool but it looked very nice.

Our little holiday at the chalets was absolutely delightful! The pools were clean and the sauna was a real bonus! We were celebrating my birthday and to have a bbq was such a treat. Would really recommend. All the staff were so friendly too! We borrowed the bikes on site and explored the area some more

The 'chalé' fullfiled our expectations and was right as we expected from what is shown in the photos. The kitchen is enough for the number of guestes allowed and there was coffee and butter for free for the first couple of nights, at least. Also there was a bottle of water and a bottle of wine as welcome drinks, and a homemade fantastic bread...

The open pool, even during the night, and the wood made building was beautiful and comfy

We were greeted with a delicious fresh bread and wine and also big basket of organic strawberries. Very generous and welcoming. The land is well fenced and with grass for our dog to run around, the sauna and pool were great and the staff was responsive and very friendly for any question we had
