Broken Hill Tourist Park
Broken Hill Tourist Park Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Broken Hill Tourist Park on Rakow Street, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s got that classic Australian caravan park vibe, you know? But actually, after spending a few nights there, I realized it’s exactly what this mining town needs. The place sits in a pretty quiet residential area, which means you’re not dealing with the noise from the main drag, but you’re still only about a ten-minute walk from Argent Street where all the cafes and pubs are.
What really struck me was how the staff actually seemed to know Broken Hill – I mean, properly know it. When I asked about getting out to the Living Desert sculptures (which, honestly, is probably why half the people come to Broken Hill), they didn’t just point me toward a brochure. They told me the best time to go is late afternoon when the light hits just right, and which walking track to take if you want to avoid the tour groups. The facilities are pretty standard for a 3-star place – clean amenities blocks, decent laundry setup, and the powered sites are spacious enough that you’re not listening to your neighbor’s TV all night. The cabins looked well-maintained too, though I stuck with my van this time.
Here’s the thing about Broken Hill – it gets bloody hot during the day and surprisingly cool at night, especially in winter. The park’s got enough shade trees scattered around that you can actually sit outside without melting, which is more than I can say for some places I’ve stayed in the outback. Plus, there’s something to be said for being able to walk to the local IGA for supplies instead of having to drive everywhere. The check-in was straightforward (they’re pretty flexible about arrival times, which helps when you’re driving long distances), and honestly, the whole place just feels like it’s run by people who understand that most folks rolling through are either mining workers or tourists doing the outback circuit. It’s not fancy, but it’s solid and reliable – sort of like Broken Hill itself, really. If you’re planning to explore the Sculpture Symposium sites or just need a decent base while you’re checking out this surprisingly artsy mining town, you could do a lot worse than parking yourself here for a few days.

Everything was clean and good quality and the a/c was excellent
What could be improved: A bit out of town, but not a real hardship
Matthew from Australia (February 17, 2025)
Brand new or close to , easy access, comfortable and pet friendly - 40+ degrees so aircon got a workout
Donna from Australia (January 31, 2025)
Liked the pool, bouncing pillow and the fact you accept animals. The price was also good for a basic cabin.
What could be improved: You Need to have some grass.
I was Ccncerned that the air cons were on in all the dongas when no one was in them. This must increase your overhead costs.
Janeene from Australia (January 30, 2025)

What could be improved: The “budget” room was very budget, but still cost $100 a night.
