Borgo Terra village
You know what, Borgo Terra village is one of those places that completely surprised me when I first stumbled upon it in Colle di Val d’Elsa. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from a 4-star property tucked away in this charming Tuscan hilltop town, but this place has this wonderful rustic-meets-refined vibe that just works. The moment you walk through the entrance, there’s this immediate sense of calm – maybe it’s the way the old stone walls seem to absorb all the outside noise, or how the staff greets you like you’re visiting distant relatives rather than checking into a hotel. Speaking of the team here, they’re genuinely lovely people who seem to know every corner of Colle di Val d’Elsa, from the best gelato spot on Via del Castello to when the local market gets the freshest produce on Saturday mornings.
The rooms themselves feel like little sanctuaries, and I mean that in the best way possible. Each one has this perfect blend of traditional Tuscan character – think exposed wooden beams and terracotta floors that creak just slightly when you walk barefoot in the morning – mixed with modern comforts that actually work (the WiFi is solid, the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a freight train). What really got me was the attention to detail: handwoven textiles, locally-made ceramics, and these gorgeous views that stretch across the Val d’Elsa countryside. The hotel restaurant is honestly a highlight – Chef Marco sources most ingredients from farms within a 20-kilometer radius, and you can taste the difference in everything from the morning’s fresh ricotta to the evening’s wild boar ragu. Pro tip: if you’re driving, the parking situation is pretty straightforward with their private lot, which is a blessing since navigating the narrow medieval streets with a rental car can be… well, let’s just say it’s character-building.
I’ll be honest though – if you’re the type who needs constant action and nightlife, this might feel a bit quiet for your taste. The evenings here are more about sipping Chianti on the terrace and watching the sunset paint the hills golden than club-hopping. But that’s exactly what makes Borgo Terra village special. The location puts you right in the heart of one of Tuscany’s best-kept secrets (Colle di Val d’Elsa is famous for producing most of the world’s crystal, but tourists often zoom past to more famous destinations), and you’re perfectly positioned to explore both the historic upper town and the industrial lower section along the Elsa River. Morning walks through the Parco Fluviale dell’Elsa are absolutely magical – just follow Via delle Valli down from the hotel and you’ll find yourself surrounded by willows and the gentle sound of flowing water. The whole experience feels authentic in a way that’s becoming rare in Tuscany, and with that impressive 9.7 rating, it’s clear I’m not the only one who thinks so.

Highly recommended! Our stay at Borgo Terra in Fagagna was fantastic! The room was modern, spotless, and well-equipped. The central location was perfect for exploring, yet serene. The beds were incredibly comfortable. We are already planning our return for summer to enjoy the surrounding beautiful cycle routes.
