The camp kitchen is one of those communal spaces that actually functions well, with enough fridge space that you’re not playing Tetris with your groceries, and the BBQ areas don’t feel like a free-for-all. What I really appreciated was the little details – decent water pressure in the shower blocks, and they’ve got those motion sensor lights that actually work properly at night.

Location-wise, you’re perfectly positioned for everything Townsville offers without the city noise. Castle Hill is right there dominating the skyline, and if you’re planning to tackle that early morning hike (which you should), you can literally walk to the base. The Strand itself is honestly one of Australia’s best waterfront developments – that lagoon, the weekend markets, all those cafes – and you’re right in the thick of it. But here’s what the brochures don’t tell you: parking along the Strand can be a nightmare during school holidays and weekends, so being able to walk over from Rowes Bay is actually a massive advantage. Plus, if you’re heading further north to Magnetic Island or using Townsville as your Cairns alternative, the ferry terminal and main shopping areas are easily accessible. The staff seem to actually know the area too – I got better restaurant recommendations from the front desk than from most travel websites. Sure, it can get a bit lively during peak season with families, and the cabin walls aren’t exactly soundproof, but that’s holiday park life. For a solid 4-star park that puts you right where the action is without breaking the budget, it delivers exactly what it promises.
