Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of holiday parks around Australia, and honestly? BIG4 Tasman Holiday Parks in Bright is one of those places that actually gets it right. When you pull up to 1 Mountbatten Avenue, you’re not dealing with some cramped caravan park squeezed into a random lot – this place has proper space to breathe, and you can tell they’ve thought about how families actually travel.

The thing about Bright is that everyone comes for the autumn colors or the summer cycling, but what people don’t always realize is how quickly accommodation fills up during peak times. That’s where this place shines, actually. They’ve got everything from powered sites if you’re traveling with your own van, to these really decent cabins that don’t feel like you’re camping in a shoebox. I mean, the cabins have proper kitchens – not just a hotplate and a bar fridge, but actual cooking space where you can make a real meal after a day out on the Rail Trail or up at Mount Buffalo. The kids’ playground is positioned smart too, away from the main road noise but close enough that you can keep an eye on things while you’re setting up camp or having a coffee.

What I really appreciate is how they’ve managed the whole site layout. You’re literally a ten-minute walk to Bright’s main strip – you know, where all the cafes and bike hire places are clustered – but far enough out that you’re not dealing with the weekend traffic noise. The Ovens River is right there too, which is perfect if you’ve got kids who need to burn off energy, or if you just want to sit with a beer and actually hear the water running instead of generators humming. They keep the facilities properly clean (and trust me, that’s not a given at every holiday park), and the staff seem to know what they’re doing rather than just going through the motions. During autumn especially, when half of Melbourne seems to descend on Bright, having a spot that’s well-organized makes all the difference. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the wifi can be a bit patchy in some of the sites further from reception, but honestly, if you’re coming to Bright and spending all your time online, you’re doing it wrong anyway. This place gets that balance right between having what you need and letting you actually enjoy why you came to the mountains in the first place.
