Beamish Holiday Park

HOTEL OVERVIEW
You know what? When I first pulled up to Beamish Holiday Park, I’ll be honest – I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The name had me thinking typical caravan park, but this place is actually something pretty special tucked away in Stanley. It’s got this quirky charm that’s hard to pin down, sort of like someone took a regular holiday park and decided to do something completely different with it.
The location is honestly brilliant if you know the area. You’re literally on the doorstep of the famous Beamish Museum – I mean, you can practically walk there, which is incredible if you’re into that whole living history thing. But what really got me was how peaceful it felt despite being so close to everything. Stanley’s got that proper County Durham character, and you’re perfectly positioned for exploring both the heritage sites and the beautiful countryside that stretches out toward Consett and beyond. The parking situation is refreshingly straightforward (none of that city center nightmare), and the check-in folks actually seemed to know the local area inside out – they pointed me toward this lovely pub walk I never would have found otherwise.
What makes this place stand out is that boutique feel they’ve managed to create. There’s no fancy star rating to hang their hat on, but honestly, that works in their favor. It feels more authentic, less corporate cookie-cutter. The accommodations have this cozy, well-thought-out vibe – nothing flashy, but everything you actually need is there and done properly. I particularly loved how quiet it gets in the evenings; you can hear the countryside settling down for the night, which is such a contrast to typical hotel noise. The grounds have this relaxed, almost village-like atmosphere during the day, with people genuinely seeming to enjoy being there rather than just passing through. And here’s the thing about staying somewhere like this in County Durham – you get that proper Northern hospitality without the tourist trap pricing you’d find closer to Newcastle or Durham city. The whole area feels refreshingly unspoiled, and you’re close enough to slip into Newcastle for a night out if you want, but far enough away that you feel like you’ve actually escaped somewhere special. That 8.2 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve been there – it’s the kind of place that does what it sets out to do really well, without trying to be something it’s not.

Staff were very nice and helpful. Caravan was clean and warm when we arrived on a cold day. Plenty of space for two of us staying. Nice location. We liked the faux fireplace, and the caravan was nice and warm, mostly.

If you want self-catering just down the road from Beamish - this is great as we took 2 days to visit all of Beamish - but I would not suggest walking it, as quite a hill and further than expected- but can be done.
The mobile home was lovely and warm with plenty of hot water and good TV reception.

Didn't have breakfast and the location was in a nice tranquil area and easy to get to. Site was easy to move around and looked clean and the play area kept the kids entertained.
