You know what surprised me most about Beach Cabins Merimbula? It’s actually right there on Short Point Road – like, literally a two-minute walk to the main beach – but somehow it feels completely tucked away from all the summer chaos. I mean, Merimbula gets absolutely packed during school holidays, but these cabins sit in this quiet pocket where you can actually hear the waves instead of just car doors slamming.

The whole setup is refreshingly honest about what it is. These aren’t fancy resort rooms trying to be something they’re not – they’re proper beach cabins with that slightly weathered timber look that actually works here. My cabin had this little deck where I’d sit with coffee in the mornings, watching people walk their dogs down toward the wharf. The interiors are clean and functional (honestly better maintained than some four-star places I’ve stayed), with everything you actually need for a beach holiday. Full kitchen, decent shower pressure, and – this matters more than you’d think – really good block-out curtains for sleeping in. The beds are comfortable too, which isn’t always a given at beach accommodation.

What I love about the location is how walkable everything becomes. You’re basically equidistant between the main Merimbula beach and the inlet side near the wharf – maybe five minutes either direction. There’s parking right there (no hunting for spots like you get closer to town), and you can easily walk to Lakeview Hotel for dinner or grab fish and chips from that little place on Market Street without dealing with holiday traffic. The Spencer Park walking track starts just around the corner too, which is perfect for morning walks when the light hits the water just right. I actually bumped into more locals than tourists on those early walks, which tells you something about how the area still feels authentic rather than completely touristy. The 9.0 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s one of those places that delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need for a proper beach break.
