Anchorage Holiday Park
You know what really struck me about Anchorage Holiday Park? It’s one of those places where you can actually hear the ocean from your cabin – and I mean properly hear it, not just some distant white noise. The park sits right there on Marandowie Drive in Iluka, which honestly feels like the edge of the world in the best possible way. When you’re driving up, you pass through this sleepy coastal town where the biggest decision most days is whether to fish from the breakwall or the beach, and then suddenly you’re at this surprisingly well-maintained holiday park that feels way more upscale than the 4-star rating suggests.
The cabins themselves are solid – nothing fancy, but they’ve got that clean, beachy vibe that works perfectly when you’re tracking sand in from the beach all day. I mean, the kitchenettes are actually functional (you can cook a proper meal, not just heat up instant noodles), and the beds are comfortable enough that you’ll sleep well even with the windows open letting in that salty air. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – sure, you’ve got families during school holidays, but the layout means you’re not crammed in next to your neighbors like sardines. The park managers clearly know what they’re doing too; check-in was smooth, and they actually gave useful local tips instead of just handing over a key.
Here’s the thing about Iluka that makes this place special – it’s not trying to be Byron Bay or Noosa. This is proper small-town coastal Australia where the local pub still does counter meals and the fishing is legitimately good. From Anchorage, you’re literally a five-minute walk to some decent surf breaks, and if you drive ten minutes toward Yamba, you hit some of the cleanest beaches on the north coast. The Clarence River is right there too, so you’ve got options whether you want salt water or fresh. I’d definitely come back, especially outside of peak season when you can get a cabin for a steal and basically have the whole place to yourself. The 8.4 rating makes sense – it’s not luxury, but it’s exactly what a good holiday park should be.

My cabin was comfortable, well furnished and had a good sized kitchen with a large fridge and full size stove. It was a good base for exploring the area around Iluka including Bundjalung National Park.

Neat and very clean. Ceiling fans and air-conditioning very handy for the hot humid weather. Appreciated having a fridge with a freezer section. Well equiped for making our breakfasts. (We did not make any other meals as we were eating out with friends but it had a full stove with cooktop, griller and oven.)

Wonderful sized cabin, beds were very comfortable and the kitchen had all that we needed. Balcony was a great bonus with table and chairs, fishing was just a few steps over the road and the pool/playground kept the kid happy! What could be improved: Be aware that if needing to work or have continuous access to the internet it's very patchy along...

Great location. Haven't been for years and whilst there have been a lot of changes none are to the detriment of the Iluka.

Pleasant cabin with ample amenities including full oven, microwave and toaster kettle, etc, comfortable bed and plenty towels. The spa pool was nice and warm! BBQs clean.

Not enough body wash shampoo and soap for a 2 night stop. Pool looked lovely but was so shallow you really couldn't swim

That you can have dogs stay in the cabin. The space in the koala cabin. The cleanliness, the price, it has everything we needed to cook. The bed was big and comfy. The verandah area for the dog and carport. Good location, easy to get to town and yamba and other surrounding areas. Very relaxing and pretty area. Friendly staff. What could be...
