You know what struck me first about Alba Royal? It’s actually tucked away from the main tourist chaos of Side, which honestly makes all the difference. The hotel sits right on Erhan Demir Boulevard in Colakli – and I mean right on the beach, not one of those “beach hotels” where you need a shuttle to actually see water. The stretch of sand here is surprisingly wide and way less crowded than what you’ll find closer to Side’s ancient ruins.

The adults-only thing (they’re strict about the 16+ rule, by the way) creates this unexpectedly chill vibe that I wasn’t prepared for. Most ultra all-inclusive places feel like organized chaos, but there’s something more… I don’t know, sophisticated about how this place operates. The pool area actually stays relatively quiet even during peak hours, and you can have a conversation without shouting over screaming kids. The staff seems to get that people come here to properly unwind – they’re attentive without being pushy, which is honestly refreshing after staying at some of the more aggressive hospitality places along the Turkish coast.

What really sells this place though is how they handle the food situation. Look, I’ve done my share of all-inclusive hotels, and the buffet game here is solid – but it’s the à la carte restaurants that surprised me. The Turkish restaurant especially (I’m blanking on the exact name) serves food that actually tastes like what you’d get in a good local spot in Side’s old town, not the watered-down tourist version. And speaking of Side – it’s maybe a 10-minute drive if you want to explore the ancient theater and harbor area, but far enough that you’re not dealing with the crowds and aggressive vendors when you’re trying to relax.

The rooms are what you’d expect from a proper 5-star setup, though the balcony views vary quite a bit depending on where they place you. Sea view obviously costs more, but even the garden-facing rooms are pretty decent – quieter too, if you’re sensitive to the sound of waves and beach activity. One thing that caught me off guard: the WiFi actually works reliably throughout the property, which isn’t always a given at Turkish beach resorts.

I’ll be honest, the 8.0 rating feels about right – it’s a really solid choice without being groundbreaking. The kind of place where everything just… works. You’re not going to have any major complaints, and you’ll probably leave feeling like you got your money’s worth. It’s particularly good if you’re looking for that sweet spot between luxury and laid-back, especially during shoulder season when the weather’s still great but the crowds thin out a bit.
